Babcock University, a Seventh Day Adventist institution at Ilisan Remo, Ogun State on Sunday held its 21st convocation turning out 2,480 graduands out of which 2, 065 bagged first degrees in various disciplines with 136 of them graduating first class. The remaining 415 were graduands of various Postgraduate courses.
Speaking during the convocation held at the University Stadium, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ademola Stephen Tayo, while congratulating the graduands for their perseverance and thanking God for the grace to complete their course of study has however told them to go out there and impact Nigeria and the world for good.
Prof Tayo said that this year’s graduation was unique in the sense that there were eminent personalities graduating from the university’s postgraduate programmes.
He said ”We have notable personalities such as a High Court Judge, Managing Directors of reputable organisations, Chief Medical Director of a University Teaching Hospital, Provosts of Colleges and Heads of Departments from various universities graduating today. Also, this graduation is unique because it is the first time that the University is producing her PhD graduates in Nursing, History, Economics and Finance”.
Prof Tayo has therefore urged the graduands to carry with them the core values of selflessness, excellence, courage, love for humanity, truth and accountability as instilled in them by the university to make a positive difference wherever they find themselves in the society.
The Vice Chancellor told the graduands to face their future with courage and determination to succeed against all odds knowing that they have been equipped with all that are needed to create a better world
Prof Tayo said “as you go into the world unknown, be sure that you are going with a known God, the grace of the Almighty God will order your steps to success and you will be blessings to your generation.
“To our esteemed faculty and staff, your commitment to nurturing young minds has been the cornerstone of our success. You have imparted knowledge, mentored, and molded generations of students who are now poised to lead and serve. Your dedication and passion are truly commendable.
“To the parents and families, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support and trust in Babcock University. Your belief in the transformative power of education has been instrumental in the achievements we celebrate today.As we stand at this juncture of reflection and anticipation, let us embrace the future with hope and excitement. Together, let us continue to make a difference in the lives of others and contribute to a world of compassion, innovation, and progress”.
Recounting some of the giant strides of the university in the last one year, Prof Tayo disclosed that aside numerous infrastructural development, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and the Nursing and Midwifery Council, have both approved the increase of the university’s enrollment quota for Medicine and Surgery from 60 to 120, and Nursing enrollment from 100 to 150 respectively. The university from the new session starting in September will also start new courses like Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering as well as Architecture and Estate Management among others.
The VC said that the alumni and staff of the university have continued to blaze trail in academic excellence and demonstration of strong character and leadership winning laurels and grants that are vital to pursuing qualitative research and training while putting the name “Babcock University” on global ratings
