Ayu should step down for peace in PDP — Bode George

By Ridwan Adekunle

Amid deepening crisis in the Nigeria’s main opposition party , the former National Deputy Chairman of

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

Chief Bode George said for the party to move forward ,the National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu must step down,so that there would be peace in the party.

Chief Bode George who is also a member of the Board of Trustees in the PDP said this in an interview on Channels Television Flagship Programme, “Politics Today,” monitored by Nigerian NewsDirect on Wednesday.

“Let him (Iyorchia Ayu) decide today. In this very minute, if he drops his hat, you  will see a change and you will see a turnaround in our party. All we are saying is, we want to unify Nigeria. Then, start from this little area that’s talking directly now to our candidate.

“He’s the leader he should be able to appeal to his friend because we must balance, there is nothing else on the table. The major issue is that let us  balance up this equity. Anybody talking something else is a load of trash.”

The PDP chieftain reacting to the question on how it doesn’t look like his  party’s presidential candidate and campaign council have moved on without him and his friends that threatened to withdraw from the presidential campaign council. “Now, let the train move, let it go. There are certain fundamentals in life. You know, this party was formed with a tripod, justice, fairness and equity.

“You said the train has moved on. Can we stop it?  Let them go. I wish them the best of luck. If you think that our own voices are of no use, good luck,”  he said .

Furthermore, Chief Olabode said it’s painful that the presidential candidate of the PDP can’t settle the problem in the party.”I said it is excruciatingly painful to me. He was part of the founding fathers. He knows the truth, you are now the leader. You are defined as a unifier. “This is a little problem, because it’s a microcosm compared to larger country. You must be able to manage the resources and the anger and the differences, the truth to Nigerians that you have the competence that you have the managerial skill, that you are mature enough to handle our differences. We will disagree but we must never be disagreeable. That is the lesson you learn when you come up to be a leader of a nation.

“That’s what you’re going to be doing. If people are sending you cacophony of voices. It doesn’t make a difference. “ he stated.
