Auto crash claims eight lives in Osun

No fewer that eight persons have been confirmed died in a truck accident that occurred on November 27 bridge in Osogbo on Saturday morning.

It was gathered that the fatal accident which happened around 1:20 am on Saturday.

The accident involved a Volvo FL7 truck with registration number KMC 35 ZJ which was climbing the bridge when the driver lost control probably due to overloading.

It was learnt that the truck which carried palm oil and Kolanut to the north had 61 passengers with the driver on board.

The Osun State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps, Kudirat Ibrahim, who was at the scene told revealed that the injured passengers have been taken to Osun State Teaching Hospital and Asubiaro General hospital in Osogbo.

“The vehicle which was heavily loaded with jerry cans of palm oil and over 60 passengers was trying to ascend the bridge but started rolling backwards and lost control. It fell sideways into the side drainage, throwing off the jerry cans over the passengers and killed some in the process.”

She added that the deceased have been taken to the mortuary.

Meanwhile, the FRSC boss called on road users to always be road conscious and obey traffic regulations in order to avoid being caught in accidents that could lead to loss of lives and property.
