The Lagos State Government says it has paid 245 retirees over N1bn pension benefits for the month of August.
The Director-General, Lagos State Pension Commission, Mr Babalola Obilana, said this during the 88th Bond Presentation Ceremony in Lagos, asking the retirees to register with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency.
According to Obilana, the 245 retirees have been paid a sum of N1,007,651,255.34.
He thanked the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for “his unwavering support and prompt allocation of funds to facilitate the welfare of pensioners in the state.”
He said, “The present administration is extremely passionate about the welfare of retirees, and this is evident in the provision of funds for the prompt payment of pension entitlements.
“As elder statesmen, we have brought LASRAA to you; please make good use of this opportunity to register, so you can reap the benefits it brings.”
Obilana said retirees and the general public should be wary of fraudsters, adding that they “do not need middlemen to access their funds.”
A retiree, Oba Wahab Ogunbiyi, said the retirees should heed the advice of LASPEC, saying the agency remained the only valid source of information on pension matters.
