ASUU strike not FG’s fault, says Minister of Education

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, has averred that the Federal Government is not to blame for the ongoing strike embarked upon by the Association of Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

This is even as he said there is no good reason for Nigerians to be disappointed over the government’s efforts to ensure that university lecturers call off the strike.

Adamu disclosed this on Wednesday when he appeared on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

The Minister insisted that the government had done its best for ASUU since the strike commenced in February this year.

According to him, the union was expected to shift ground for the benefits of the students and the entire country, saying no demand can be met hundred percent.

In his words, “If Nigerians are disappointed, I think they don’t have very good reasons to be disappointed with the government on this,” he said.

“Why should they be disappointed? Just tell me in your opinion, how is it the fault of the government and not that of the union?

“You can only blame the Federal Government if it refuses to do what it is supposed to do — make the offer to satisfy their demands. There is no demand that can be satisfied 100 percent by any government.”
