As the new Naira scarcity bites harder, the Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions ( ASSBIFI) an affiliation of Trade Union Congress has directed bank workers to shutdown operations and stay at home pending the resolution of the situation.
This is contained in a statement signed by Association National President, Olusoji Oluwole and made available to Nigerian NewsDirect on Saturday.
The statement reads ” the national Secretariat has been inundated with reports of threats and attacks on lives and properties of members and banks branches, and subsequently have been in the field to monitor and confirm the reports.
” We issued warnings and appeals to the government to provide safety of lives and properties of our members within and around the banks premises but regrettably the attacks have continued without any form of security and safety of our members, and the most recent attack yesterday Friday on one bank branch in Epe, Lagos state.
” We cannot leave the lives and properties of our members being exposed to this danger.
” Consequently, all members should as from today stay away from work in any state where banks branches are attacked and this should continue everyday until normalcy is restored as you will be avail further directive as events unfold.
