Association charges member schools to use Christian education to curb societal ills

The Association of Christian Schools in Nigeria (ASCN) on Thursday in Jos proprietors and administrators of private schools to use Christian education to curb social ills.

The association gave the advice in a communique issued at the end of its 2021 General Assembly.

The communique was jointly signed by the Chairman of the drafting committee, Mrs Victoria Akpoko, and six other members.

The association noted the rising rate of criminality and other ills in the society and stressed the need for Christian schools to step up their game in shaping future leaders.

“Proprietors and administrators of schools must work hard to revive falling standard of education in Nigeria.

“Christian education has the capacity to curb some of the scourge in our society and produce future leaders.

“As stakeholders in the mission of rebuilding Nigeria, we are a strong tool for national transformation and development,’’ it stated.

The communique also advised school owners to introduce practical ways of learning in schools by incorporating entrepreneurship in their teaching and learning modules.

It also advised proprietors to teach students the need to adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols in school and at home.

The communique also noted that poor attendance at the General Assembly, led to inability to hold fresh election of new national officers and the extension of tenure of current officers by one year.
