Assembly poll results show APC has no viable opposition in Ekiti – Dep. Gov.
Deputy Governor of Ekiti, Mrs Monisade Afuye, says the overwhelming victory recorded by All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s House of Assembly election indicates that the ruling party has no viable opposition in the state.
Afuye stated this at a rally held across the two constituencies in Ikere-Ekiti on Sunday to celebrate the victory of the APC candidates.
She said that the clearing of 24 out of the 26 assembly seats was a loud and clear validation of the Governor Biodun Oyebanji-led government by the people of the state.
The deputy governor appealed to the lawmakers-elect not to disappoint the people who threw them up through their votes.
She said they must come with the mindset and strong conviction to partner Oyebanji’s government to strengthen the state economy and deliver democracy dividends to the people.
“This is a sweet victory for all of us in Ikere-Ekiti and the progressive fold across Ekiti and even Nigeria, with the emergence of the President-elect, Sen. Bola Tinubu, as the incoming leader of the nation.
“Our people didn’t just do us proud in the assembly poll, they did same in the last presidential and national assembly elections where we won the presidential, three senatorial and six house of representatives seats.
“There is nothing wrong in APC winning all elections in Ekiti. The governor is laying a solid foundation for the actualisation of this through his performance, humility and receptiveness to the opposition.
“However, we should not discriminate. Rather, we should begin to curry the favour of those in the opposition. Let us open our doors to them so that they too can join us.
“To the winners, make sure you give our people the best representation they deserve. Don’t put our party to shame. Be ready to accommodate everybody and do your best to better their lives,” she said.
Newsmen reports that both Babatunde Oke and Tunde Idowu were declared winners of Ikere Constituencies I and II respectively.
Speaking on behalf of the winners, Idowu pledged their loyalty to their constituencies, saying that they would do all within their capacities to deliver and meet the expectations of the people.
Idowu, who got re-elected, said that he had garnered lot of experience, both in politics and legislation, in the last four years.
These, he said, would guide him to have a better representation and make positive impacts in the assembly and his constituency.
