The Director-General (DG), Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Mrs. Cecilia Gayya, has disclosed that the college has started training of 500 Benue Civil Servants
Gayya made the disclosure on Wednesday when he led other staff of the college on a courtesy visit to the Governor of Benue State Samuel Ortom in Makurdi.
Represented by the Head of Administration, Mr. Goodluck Audu, Gayya commended Ortom for approving the training of the 500 workers.
She explained that the training would equip the civil servants to better discharge their duties creditably.
“If you do not train workers, do not blame them for not living up to their responsibilities.
“We have more programmes for the workers and have also identified areas where we can assist the state to boost the knowledge of its workforce.
“We ensure the effective performance of civil servants,” Gayya said.
Responding, Governor Ortom promised that his administration will sustain the training of its workforce by ASCON.
“We will make the training of the civil servants a yearly programme. We will be doing it annually and I am optimistic that the other administration that will succeed me will ensure that the policy of training Benue workers continue.
“There is need to train workers to enable them add value to the civil service and government.
“The trainings will go a long to promote professionalism for the overall good of the society,” Ortom maintained.
The Governor further explained that the human capital development was very important and stressed that if you do not train and build their capacities they cannot perform optimally.
He thanked ASCON delegation for accepting to come all the way from Lagos to train the Benue civil servants, emphasizing that the cost had been reduced because transportation, accommodation and other logistics had been taken off.
