A renowned visual artist, Mr Uzochukwu Eze, has called on unemployed youths to strive to acquire skills that would make them to be self-reliant.
Eze, a graduate of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), made the remarks in an interview with the Newsmen on Friday in Enugu.
According to him, there was need for youths to acquire the requisite technical skills on drawing, painting, sculpturing as well as tie and dye to make them viable.
“Young artists should not be seen among unemployed youths that go about looking for jobs, because this is the time to show the skills they have acquired as artists.
“For me, artistic expression and various forms of arts have proven to be dynamic, vast and unrestricted.
“Also in the world of art, wastes are given relevance because what many abandoned as waste, an artist can create something meaningful out of it and earn a living from it
“This art work of mine has taken me round to different countries to work and also to train others, who are interested in making a living from it,” Eze said.
According to him, “there is a proper way to do creativity of art because whatever anyone wants in life, it is better to get basic education first.
He called on young artists to be focused and unique in their artistic work, adding that their uniqueness would uplift them in life.
He, however, commended the Federal Government’s efforts for creating an enabling environment for the promotion of Nigerian visual art.
