Arsenal: Many people thought I was finished – Lacazette

Former Arsenal striker, Alexandre Lacazette, has responded to criticism of his performances during his time at the north London club amid brilliant form for Ligue 1 side Lyon.

Lacazette left Arsenal following the expiration of his contract last summer.

The Frenchman was signed by the Gunners from Lyon for €60 million back in 2017.

However, Lacazette failed to contribute significantly during the 2021/2022 campaign, scoring only four goals in 30 Premier League appearances for the Gunners.

As a result, Lacazette came under strong criticism for his performances.

After spending five years at Arsenal, Lacazette returned to the French top tier on a free transfer and has been flourishing at Lyon this season.

Lacazette has scored 20 goals and provided four assists in 29 Ligue 1 matches for the French outfit.

Lacazette has now addressed his doubters during his time at Arsenal.

“Many people thought I was finished,” Lacazette told Telefoot (as quoted by The Boot Room).

“They were saying that I would not succeed. That the club was making a mistake (signing me). I wanted to show that Lyon were right in calling on me.”

Lacazette scored 71 goals and provided 36 assists in 206 appearances across all competitions for Arsenal.
