The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has assured the National Assembly of the Nigerian Army commitment to extend the frontier of peace and stability in the country.
Lagbaja gave the assurance when the chairman and members of the House of Representatives Committee on Army, visited the Army Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.
He said that the Nigeria Army would do all things necessary to address the prevailing security challenges bedeviling the country.
He commended the Chairman of the committee, Mahmud Abdullahi, for his support for the army in the conduct of its operations, training and other activities in line with its constitutional mandate.
Lagbaja said the support had helped the army to refine its operation to be able to meet the expectations of the country.
“Our country is currently affronted with a myriad of security challenges which we are grappling with.
“With the support of the National Assembly, I want to assure you that the officers and men of the Nigerian army are determined.
“We will continue to ensure that we extend the frontier of peace and stability across our country by addressing security challenges in all geographical the jobs of the country.
“We are ready, willing and able to work in partnership and consultation with responsible organisations, especially the National Assembly to discharge our responsibility,” he said.
The COAS said Nigerian army was being confronted with some challenges in discharging its responsibility, which according to him, will be addressed through the assistance and effort of the House of Representatives.
In his remarks, the chairman of the committee said the visit was to formalise themselves with the operations and activities of the army with a view to provide the needed support.
Mamudu said the committee had taken briefs from the Chief of Army Staff, promising to take back the briefs, digest it and draw an oversight engagement with the Nigerian army.
He expressed confidence in the ability of the Nigerian army to address the prevailing security challenges and assured of the continuous support of the legislature.
