Armed Forces Remembrance Day: Sanwo-Olu donates N75m to Nigerian Legion

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has donated N75 million to the Nigerian Legion to support the welfare of Legionnaires and the families of fallen heroes.
The donation was made at the official launch of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem and Appeal Fund, held at the Lagos House, Marina, on Monday.
The Governor, during the ceremony, which was attended by Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Barr. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin; members of the State Executive Council; Service Commanders and Commissioner of Police; and officials of the Nigerian Legion, also launched the emblem and Appeal Fund in preparation for the January 15, 2025, commemoration of Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
Speaking at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s commitment to the continuous welfare of Legionnaires, especially the elderly and the families of fallen heroes.
Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the Nigerian Legion members and the fallen heroes for their service to the country and assured that Legionnaires would not be left out of the various programmes of his government.
In response to the appeal made by the Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the Nigerian Legion, DCG Akeem Olawale Wolimoh, the Governor promised to donate housing units in the Prince Abiodun Ogunleye Housing Estate in Ikorodu to the State Council of the Nigerian Legion. This gesture is aimed at providing shelter for the vulnerable and aged members of the Legion.
The Governor also pledged to provide security vehicles and equipment to support the Nigerian Legion, who have expressed their ongoing willingness to contribute to the protection of lives and properties in Lagos State.
Earlier in the event, DCG Wolimoh praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for his dedication to the welfare of retired officers and the families of fallen heroes in Lagos State.
He mentioned that the N50 million donated to the State Chapter of the Nigerian Legion during the launch of last year’s emblem had been judiciously used for the welfare of members and the families of the fallen heroes.
During the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu, along with his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Barr. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin; Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro; Chief of Staff, Mr. Tayo Ayinde; Commissioner for Home Affairs, Hon. Olanrewaju Layode; several members of the State Executive Council; and heads of security agencies in the state, were all decorated with the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day emblem.
