Armed attackers target Enugu task force member’s warehouse as police officer shot in separate incident

Suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) terrorist group launched an attack on Monday, June 19, 2023, targeting the warehouse of Mr. Romeo Ilodibe Nwosimiri, a prominent member of Governor Peter Mbah’s newly formed task force enforcing the sit-at-home ban in Enugu State.

The attack occurred at Garriki Mayor Market around 11 a.m., where eight masked gunmen arrived in two SUVs, firing sporadically, robbing, and assaulting staff members.

Two individuals were abducted but were later released. Fortunately, Mr. Romeo was not present during the assault.

In a separate incident the same day, gunmen attacked Ogui Road and Abakpa, where a police officer was shot at a checkpoint near Abakpa Market.

These incidents highlight escalating tensions as the state government intensifies efforts to enforce the sit-at-home ban.
