Former National Chairman, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Senator Victor Umeh, has expressed optimism that the party would secure all the legislative seats in the 2023 general elections.
Umeh made the statement on Wednesday at a consultative forum of APGA stakeholders in Awka North Local Government Area (LGA).
He said, winning the legislative seats at the National and State levels in the 2023 general elections would enthrone a more peaceful political atmosphere in the state.
According to him, such atmosphere will help the governor-elect, Prof. Charles Soludo, perform better for the progress of the state.
“I’m optimistic that APGA will win all the legislative seats come 2023. This will enthrone synergy between all the arms of government and make the state government function smoothly and adequately.
“It will also promote common interest which is key to sustainable growth and development of any society. So, we are urging our people to continue to support our great party,” he said.
The ex-national Chairman said he would decide whether to vie for the Anambra Central Senatorial seat in the 2023 general elections after due consultation with his constituency.
“This forum became necessary because there have been clarion calls by different individuals, political and nonpolitical groups, that I should run for senate once again to represent Anambra central senatorial district.
“I will make my decision after consulting with the seven local government areas under Anambra central,” he said.
Mr. Ferdinand Onuje, Transition Committee Chairman, Awka North LGA said that APGA securing all the legislative seats would reduce distractions and political instability in the state.
“We also need to harp more on competence as the benchmark of choosing the lawmakers.
“The interest of the people should also override any individual interest and as such, the people of Awka North is lending their voices to the calls that Sen. Umeh should contest in the general elections.
“We know his capacity and we are assuring you that you have our support,” Onuje said.
Also, a former State House of Assembly member, Mr. Boniface Okonkwo, moved a motion that Umeh should accept the call to serve his constituency and contest in the 2023 general elections.
The motion was seconded by another former lawmaker, Mrs Rebecca Udoji, and the stakeholders supported the motion through a voice vote.
