APGA aspirant joins Anambra South Senate seat race
Patrick Ubajaka, a senatorial aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has officially announced his intention to run for the Anambra South Senatorial District seat in the National Assembly.
The position became vacant following the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in July, and Ubajaka is among several candidates vying to replace him.
Speaking to journalists in Awka on Thursday, Ubajaka described his decision to run for the Senate as both a “divine orchestration” and a “well-informed” choice to serve the people. He also noted that he has been a member of APGA since the party’s inception.
Ubajaka, a kinsman of the late Senator Ubah, expressed the belief that only a close relative of Ubah should be allowed to complete his term in the Senate. He also revealed that he is preparing a seven-point agenda for the Anambra South Senatorial District, which spans 1,320 km² of Anambra State’s total 4,416 km² area.
“The senatorial district comprises seven local government areas: Aguata, Ekwusigo, Ihiala, Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Orumba North, and Orumba South. I am well-acquainted with the terrain,” Ubajaka said.
He went on to highlight that the region is home to some of the state’s most prominent entrepreneurs, politicians, traditional leaders, and scholars. “Representing such a zone in the Senate is not an ‘all-comers job.’
It requires a relational personality and a team player, qualities I have demonstrated over decades as an entrepreneur and a former public office holder,” he added.
Ubajaka outlined his vision for quality representation through the sponsorship of impactful bills. Drawing from his extensive experience in the private sector, particularly his successful execution of European Union projects across Nigeria, he emphasised that he would be a voice in the Senate that the people could be proud of.
In addition to his personal qualifications, Ubajaka pointed out that, like the late Ubah, he hails from the Otolo community in Nnewi North Local Government Area, which he believes positions him as the most suitable candidate to complete Ubah’s tenure.
Ubajaka further explained that his intention to run is motivated by a commitment to continue Ubah’s work and preserve his legacy.
“If elected, I will ensure that his hard-earned legacies are sustained,” he said.
Ubajaka also praised the leadership of Anambra State under Governor Chukwuma Soludo, noting that the governor is working to revitalise the ideology of APGA.
“It is this kind of politics that resonates with my essence, and it is this vision I want to take to the Red Chambers,” he remarked.
He concluded by appealing to APGA’s leadership to consider him for the party’s ticket, assuring the people that his legislative agenda would align with Governor Soludo’s vision of making Anambra a peaceful, secure, livable, and prosperous state.
