APC support groups urge Tinubu to intervene in Benue crisis

The Forum of All Progressives Congress (APC) Support Groups Leaders has called on the party’s leadership and President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing crisis within the Benue State chapter to safeguard democracy within the party.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Dr AK Peters, the forum’s Director-General, highlighted the urgent need for intervention, citing concerns over internal disputes that could undermine party stability in the state.

During the briefing, Peters reaffirmed the forum’s loyalty and commitment to the APC’s national leadership and the administration of President Tinubu. He described the APC’s support groups as the party’s backbone, playing a key role in addressing internal conflicts.

He recalled that the APC National Working Committee (NWC), under the authority of the National Executive Committee (NEC), had previously dissolved the Benue State executive and put in place a caretaker committee to restore order.

While this move initially brought relative stability in February 2024, he lamented that tensions resurfaced when the dissolved state executive submitted a list of candidates to the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), defying the party’s leadership.

Peters expressed disappointment over the actions of the former Benue APC chairman, stressing that party decisions must be upheld to maintain discipline and unity.

“We understand that the crisis in APC Benue arose from the NWC’s decision to restructure the leadership in the state. However, it is crucial that party supremacy is respected by all stakeholders,” he stated.

He called on President Tinubu, APC National Chairman Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, and other key figures within the party to step in immediately to prevent further disruptions in Benue APC.

Peters also reaffirmed the forum’s full support for the decisions made at the recent NEC meeting, urging all party members to comply with the resolutions to ensure stability in the state chapter.
