APC Primaries: No fixed date yet — National Publicity Secretary
By Joel Oladele, Abuja
The All Progressive Congress has said no date has been fixed yet for its primaries as against the earlier reports by some media organisation that 30th of May has been fixed for the presidential primaries
Addressing journalists. on Wednesday after the NWC meeting at the party’s secretariat in Abuja, the new National Publicity Secretary, Barr. Felix Morka said discussion on the date is ongoing and will be made available to the public as soon as they reach conclusion
“The NWC of the APC have met and we just rose from that meeting. Among other topics covered as you would probably expected, we discussed the program for our party’s primaries looking at the schedule of activities that is to come. I will unable to give you a run down of the details of that schedule because it is still in discussion and we are yet to conclude on a definite plan or timetable or schedule for our primaries.
“But , I can confirm that we did have that conversation today. It started today but we have not concluded or made any decision. I am not aware of anything that is trending because we have not put up any information into the public space about the schedule of our primaries. It is still in progress and as soon as the details are concluded, and a decision is made, you will be the first to see or hear about it.”
Recall that Nigerian NewsDirect has earlier reported that The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set June 3rd, 2022 as the deadline for all political parties to conduct their primaries.
On the new Electoral Act saying appointees of government should resign before primaries, Morka said, “The Ministers are members of the party. And the party is the party. Now, both the Ministers and other appointees and the party leadership have excellent counsel and guidance. I am sure everyone involved intends to comply fully with the intendment and letters of the Electoral Act.”
