APC Izi-Uzo requests Nnamani to contest 2023 governorship seat in Enugu State

All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State on Sunday requested Mr Davidson Nnamani to contest the 2023 governorship election.

The stakeholders from the 11 wards in the Local Government Area maintained that it was the turn of Isi-Uzo to produce the next governor of Enugu State.

Speaking during the event on Sunday, a representative of APC youth groups in the area, Mr Samuel Uguru, said youths in the party were solidly behind the call for Nnamani to vie for the governorship seat.

Uguru noted that denying Isi-Uzo the opportunity would amount to short-changing it in spite of its contributions to the development of the state.

A representative of APC women groups, Mrs Justina Ede, explained that the request was based on Nnamani’s track record and achievements,

She described Nnamani as a man who had the interest of Isi-Uzo and Enugu State at heart.

According to her, Nnamani would correct the injustice done to the people of Isi-Uzo by successive governments, lamenting that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state had really short-changed the area.

Speaking on behalf of non-indigenes in Isi-Uzo, Mrs Christiana Onah said they would not hesitate to elect someone who would deliver dividends of democracy to them.

Onah expressed regret that repeated calls on the PDP-controlled state government to fix the Ikem-Eha-Amufu Road had fallen on deaf ears making the road to become a nightmare for users.

Also an Anglican priest, Rev. Nwankemmadu Ogenyi, said Isi-Uzo had not benefitted from any political arrangement since 1999, saying the area was marginalised by successive Enugu State governments.

Ogenyi added that the marginalisation would be addressed if their son or daughter became governor in 2023.

He called on other local government areas, especially in the Enugu East senatorial district to support their cause.

The cleric expressed the belief that their preferred candidate would emerge victorious at the polls on the platform of the APC.

Responding, Nnamani thanked his people for the trust they had in him by requesting him to join the governorship race.

Nnamani told the delegates that he would engage in wider consultation on their request and make his intention known at the appropriate time.

He assured, however, that he would not disappoint them.

Davidson Nnamani was born in Ogor, a village in Ikem, Isiuzo Local Government Area of Enugu State in 1965.

He attended St Andrews Nursery School, and Community Primary School, Ikem Uno where he completed his primary school education in 1977.

In 1977, he gained admission as one of the pioneer students of Boys Secondary School, Umuhuali, Nigercem, Nkalagu in present day Ebonyi.

He completed his Higher School Certificate in 1986 after which he gained admission to study political science at the then Anambra State University of Science and technology, Awka, now Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

Nnamani graduated from the university in 1990.

He is currently an estate developer.
