The ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) has fixed new dates for its earlier scheduled presidential, governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections.
The National Public Secretary of the party, Barr. Felix Morka revealed this to journalists on Wednesday after the National Working Committee meeting at the party’s national secretariat, Abuja.
In his address, he said the special convention and presidential primaries earlier slated for 31st of May and 1st of June will now be held between Sunday 29th and Monday 30th of May 2022.
“Just today Wednesday, the National Working Committee of the all progressives Congress has made and approved a revised timetable schedule of activities for the House of Assembly, National Assembly, governorship primaries and appeals that arise from that.
“Our governorship and House of Representatives primary election will now take place on Thursday the 26th of May 2022. “The Senate and House of Assembly primaries will now take place on Friday to the 27th of May 2022.
“The election appeals for governorship and the House of Representatives will now take place on Friday, the 27th of May 2022.
“While the appeals for the Senate and House of Assembly primaries will take place on Saturday the 28th of May 2022.
“While special convention and presidential primary will now take place between Sunday to the 29th and Monday 30th of May 2022,” the NPS said. Recall that The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has insisted on Friday June 3, 2022 as the deadline for primaries.
However, a few days to the deadline, none of the political parties had conducted their presidential primaries. The major opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s presidential primary has been scheduled for May 28, a day before APC’s.
Speaking on the mode of primary and the rumor about zoning, Morka said the mode of primary will be contained in the guidelines to be issued and dismissed the rumour about zoning. He said, “There’s no such decision made by the National Working Committee”
