APC chieftain rallies support for Caretaker Committee tenure extension

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC),  Mr Yekini Nabena has called on members of the party to support the Gov. Mai Mala Buni-led National Caretaker and Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the party.

Nabena, who is also the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, made the call in a statement on Sunday in Abuja while commending President Muhammadu Buhari for extending the tenure of the 13-man committee.

Our Correspondent reports that Buhari recently approved the extension of the tenure of the committee after a closed-door meeting where Buni presented its scorecard.

Nabena said the committee deserved the extension considering how it had rescued the party from crisis and stabilised it across its state chapters.

He added that the approval of tenure extension for the committee was a testimony that the APC at that level was now back to life.

On the naming of APC national secretariat after Buhari, Nabena said as the leader of the party, he deserved all the accolades.

According to him, the president’s integrity, leadership style and contributions to the development of APC deserve every recognition and emulation.

Nabena called on members and leaders of the party at all levels to give the Buni-led committee a deserving support to enable it reposition the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Speaking on the leadership quality of Buni, Nabena noted that within 11 months of the committee, notable opposition leaders, governor, senators, House of Representative members had defected to the APC.

This, he said, included many other prominent politicians that had now swelled the fold of APC, giving assurance of better future for the party.

“Also, it is remarkable that the CECPC under Buni inherited liability of unpaid legal fees to the tune of N340 million, but successfully negotiated and brought down the fees to N179 million which is now fully paid.

“In terms of inclusiveness in party activities, the committee has shown a new direction with so many members who have felt neglected now feeling proud as owners of APC.

“Members of the party now have a true sense of belonging given by Gov. Buni-led committee.

“I therefore appeal to all and sundry, especially the leaders at all levels, not to only give peace a chance but rally all the needed support for the current APC leadership at the centre,” Nabena said.

He said it was now obvious that with Buni in charge, many other opposition governors, Senators, House of Representatives members and other known politicians would be attracted to APC.
