Anti-bunkering efforts strengthen oil production and economy — Army

The Nigerian Army has stated that its anti-bunkering operations in the Niger Delta region have significantly curbed oil theft, boosted production output, and contributed to the nation’s economic recovery efforts.

The Commander of the 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Jafaar Ibrahim, made this known during the brigade’s combined West African Social Activities event held at the Military Cantonment in Mbiokporo, Nsit-Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State on Saturday.

Ibrahim noted that the brigade’s ongoing operations have reduced security threats in the state to a minimum and restored confidence among residents.

He said, “The continuous conduct of various operations in the brigade’s area of responsibility has drastically decreased security threats and rekindled confidence in Akwa Ibom residents.

“The brigade will continue to enthusiastically fulfil its constitutional responsibilities with responsiveness and loyalty. Furthermore, the commitment of the brigade, in collaboration with other security agencies, to make Akwa Ibom State peaceful for law-abiding citizens remains unwavering. Operations such as Delta Safe Joint Task Force South-South (Sector 4) and Thunder have significantly weakened the activities of criminal elements within the state.

“Our anti-bunkering operations have also reduced oil theft to the barest minimum in the state and boosted national oil production, contributing to improved economic recovery.”

In his remarks, the Special Guest of Honour retired General Godwin Umo, explained that WASA is a long-standing tradition of the Nigerian Army, created to socialise and celebrate achievements over a specific period.

He noted that while the military profession is often challenging and stressful, social activities like WASA are designed to alleviate stress and tension, enabling troops to face future challenges with renewed energy.

The event featured the presentation of gifts and awards to personnel who excelled in their respective units and formations, alongside cultural performances by various ethnic groups across the country.
