The Transition Committee Chairman of Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, Engr. Anayochukwu Orjiako has said two holding centres have been adequately prepared for the safety and well-being of victims in Ihiala, should the proposed flood devastation of this year begin to wreak havoc.

Orjiako who disclosed this during an exclusive interview with our correspondent, said one of the holding centres is situated at Ihiala local government secretariat, while the other camp is located at Odata Primary School, Ihiala.

He said the camps have been adequately prepared to help occupants feel comfortable.

The TC Chairman who explained that the Local Government Authority intends to use palliatives from stakeholders of Ihiala and the State Government to sustain flood victims to mitigate as well as cushion the adverse effects of the proposed flood, said himself and the councilors would further educate and sensitise those on the river bank to relocate to the camps mentioned above to avoid catastrophic situations when the flood eventually comes.

The Local Government Chairman further disclosed that the state government through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) had invited all the TC Chairmen of flood-prone areas to a meeting where they were guided on what to do regarding response to the plights of victims even as he commended the government of Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for its commitments to the safety and well-being of Ndi-Anambra especially those in flood-prone areas.

He said the state government has the people of Ihiala at heart and also want to ensure that they are comfortable in a very conducive and convenient atmosphere such that they wouldn’t miss their homes much, should they be evacuated to the camps when the flood eventually sets in.
