Anambra: Police kill suspected gunman, recover weapons

The police in Anambra State have gunned down a suspected secessionist. The incident occurred in the Aguata area of the state.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain suspect.

He stated that police operatives engaged a gang travelling in a black Prado Jeep along the Igbo Ukwu/Ezinifite/Uga road. While one suspect was killed, the others managed to escape.

In a statement  issued to journalists on Monday, Ikenga stated that the incident occurred on Sunday around midday.

He explained, “On September 29, 2024, at 11:30 p.m., the police-led security force, while on patrol in Aguata LGA, received information about suspected armed men seen in a black Prado Jeep along the Igbo Ukwu/Ezinifite/Uga route.”

“The operatives, using an offensive approach, engaged the armed men in a gun battle, neutralising one of the suspects while the others escaped.”

He added that the security forces recovered two AK-47 rifles, one pump-action gun, two magazines loaded with live ammunition, 15 live cartridges, and a black Prado Jeep with two different licence plates.
