The Anambra Police Command has arrested a notorious cult leader, known as “Alagbon Nise,” whose real name is Obioma Okafor-Ama.

For years, Alagbon has terrorised the residents of Nise Community in the Awka South Local Government Area.

Alagbon had long been a fugitive, appearing on the police’s wanted list. However, recent events saw his capture several days ago by personnel from the Rapid Response Squad (RSS) stationed in Awkuzu, acting on a tipoff.

Commissioner of Police Anambra State, Aderemi Adeoye, speaking to journalists in Awka on Friday, confirmed the successful arrest. He praised his officers for their dedication, noting that the suspect was apprehended in his Nise hideout after days of meticulous intelligence work.

“Presently, Alagbon is in police custody, pending the conclusion of the investigation. Once the investigation is complete, he will face charges related to his alleged criminal activities,” he said.

A source, who is a native of Nise, disclosed that Alagbon was believed to be a ringleader of a notorious cult group responsible for terrorizing the town and its neighboring communities, resulting in severe injuries and loss of life among their victims.

“The notorious cultist and his gang have been on the police’s wanted list for a long time,” the source stated.

“Alagbon is known to be part of the group responsible for multiple cult-related killings in Awka. We, the residents of Nise, and the surrounding areas, are relieved and jubilant upon hearing the news of his capture,” the source added.
