Anambra 2021 zoning arrangement, election rigging method –– APC Governorship aspirant
The pre-existing contract of zoning the Nov. 6 Governorship Election in Anambra to Anambra South Senatorial District is a way of rigging the election in advance, an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Anambra, Dr Amobi Nwokafor has said. He made the assertion on Thursday in Awka.
Nwokafor, who is also a Chartered Accountant, said, “the arrangement for the rotation of governorship position in the state was a sole arrangement of the ruling party, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).”
According to him, such zoning arrangement should not be imposed on other political parties in the state.
“For over 16 years now, it is one party, APGA, that has been ruling the state, and it is the same party that instituted and is canvassing for zoning arrangement.
“That zoning arrangement in the real sense of it, is a way of rigging an election in advance, because they decided on zoning the governorship position to prepare their candidate, even before the election.
“So, if a party like APC, which has not ruled the state, should follow such arrangement, that party is already defeated.
“Because, the party would not have an opportunity to present a candidate that would match their already prepared candidate.
“So, zoning means rigging the election in advance.
“If at all zoning will be considered, this election should be zoned to Awka Capital Territory, because other zones have ruled the state except, Awka indigenes,” he said.
Nwokafor also suggested that the zoning arrangements could be done at political party level to favour all the parties in the state.
“As people, we all have the right to be members of the different political parties in the state. Everybody cannot be in APGA or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), it cannot contain all of us.
“The zoning can equally be at the party level. PDP has ruled, APGA is ruling, it should be the turn of APC this time around, after all, we are all Igbos.
“Why should we be marginalised because we are members of APC?
“This is an act of injustice, and this is the time to readdress this zoning arrangement imposed on us. It’s time to preach the zoning arrangement at party level,” he said.
