The Zamfara Government has approved contract for a construction of 53-km Gusau–Jauri–Dogon Kade–Nasarawar Mailayi–Nasarawar Godel Road at the cost of ₦70.89 billion.
This is contained in a statement by Mahmud Dantawasa, Zamfara Commissioner for Information and Culture in Gusau on Monday.
Dantawasa said the approval was granted by the state Executive Council, chaired by Gov. Dauda Lawal.
“The approval was given at the Council meeting held on 5th October, 2026, following consideration of a memorandum presented by the Honourable Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure.
“The Council also ratified the earlier approval granted by His Excellency, the Executive Governor.”
He said the project has an 18-month completion period and comprises a 7.3-metre-wide carriageway with 1.5-metre shoulders on each side, a 40mm wearing course, three major bridges, box, pipe and triple-cell culverts, road furniture, traffic signs and road markings.
“It also includes ancillary works required for the completion and commissioning of the road.”
According to him, upon completion, the road is expected to: ‘Improve road connectivity between Gusau and communities along the corridor.
The project would facilitate the movement of agricultural produce and other goods to markets.
Dantawasa said that the project was also expected to improve access to healthcare, education and other essential services; support security operations and enhance mobility and response within the corridor.
The road network would also stimulate commercial and economic activities in the benefiting communities; and reduce travel time and vehicle operating costs.
Dantawasa said that the approval underscores Lawal’s commitment to the Rescue Mission of Zamfara State by improving road infrastructure, strengthening connectivity, securing lives and opening up markets and opportunities for the people.
“The State Government calls on the contractor to deliver the project to the required quality standards and within the agreed timeframe.
“The government assured the public that the project will be closely supervised to ensure compliance with specifications and value for money,” the commissioner said.
