The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is being haunted by the ghost of his sordid past following his allegations over the 2026 budgetary service-wide vote.
In a statement signed on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party pushed back against Atiku’s claim that the vote was set aside to fund President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 reelection campaign, describing the assertion as baseless, misguided, and calculated to mislead Nigerians.
The APC explained that a service-wide vote is an elementary, long-established budgetary mechanism used across major democracies to cater for government-wide obligations and unforeseen expenditures, rather than a secret slush fund.
“The ghost of his sordid past haunts Atiku,” the statement read.
“Ironically, a man whose reputation as a public servant is mired in some of Nigeria’s darkest episodes of mindless corruption and profligacy attempts to smear a high-achieving administration and lecture Nigerians on matters of fiscal responsibility and budgetary transparency,” the party stated.
The APC highlighted several key social and economic interventions implemented by the Tinubu administration to justify its fiscal management, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, the new national minimum wage, the Consumer Credit Scheme, and the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative.
“President Tinubu is busy transforming national challenges to national opportunities, and making big and unprecedented wins for our country,” the statement added.
“The APC and its administration remain focused on realising the Renewed Hope Agenda, rebuilding the country’s economy, deepening institutional reforms, expanding public infrastructure, and improving living conditions for all Nigerians.”
