The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for urgent and concerted efforts to tackle the global shortage of teachers, describing the teaching profession as one of the noblest in society.
In a message released on Sunday to commemorate the 2025 World Teachers’ Day, themed “Focusing on the Global Teacher Shortage,” Senator Tinubu emphasised the need to empower educators, invest in their professional growth, and attract more individuals into the teaching profession.
According to her, “The shortage of teachers is a challenge we must confront with urgency, by empowering educators, investing in their growth, and inspiring more to join this noble profession.”
She described teachers as “true heroes, shaping minds, nurturing dreams, and guiding generations,” adding that their dedication continues to sustain the foundations of learning and national development.
“As a lifelong teacher myself, I salute you all on this special day,” the First Lady said, extending her heartfelt appreciation to educators across the country and beyond.
Senator Tinubu reaffirmed her belief that investing in teachers remains key to building a more inclusive and progressive society, noting that education can only thrive where teachers are valued and supported.
World Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually on 5th October to honour the contributions of teachers and highlight issues affecting the profession worldwide.
