The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has commemorated World Environment Day by reaffirming its dedication to environmental sustainability, clean energy adoption, and robust regulation within the nation’s petroleum value chain.
The regulator emphasized that its continuous oversight of the midstream and downstream sectors remains geared toward enforcing strict environmental compliance, curbing operational pollution, and championing cleaner energy solutions.
Central to this drive is the aggressive expansion of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), alongside the promotion of alternative clean fuels, which the authority notes is already yielding measurable reductions in greenhouse emissions and improving ambient air quality across Nigeria.
Speaking at the commemorative event, the Executive Director for Health, Safety, Environment, and Community (HSEC) at the NMDPRA, Dr. Mustapha Lamorde, emphasized that environmental stewardship is an urgent collective responsibility that cuts across individuals and corporate organizations.
He noted that the regulator is deeply focused on instituting sustainable operational practices that effectively balance the demands of national economic growth with the preservation of natural resources for future generations.
The internal celebration also featured a series of advocacy and awareness-driven activities designed to deepen environmental consciousness among the agency’s personnel.
According to the authority, these initiatives reinforce its institutional alignment with global best practices in community development, occupational health, safety, and ecosystem protection.
NMDPRA reiterated its commitment to collaborating closely with critical industry stakeholders and the general public to build a sustainable, green energy landscape for the country.
