A distressed woman, Eze Regina Chekwubechukwu, from Amokwe in the Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, has voiced her desperation following a series of brutal attacks by members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The group, formally designated as a terrorist organization, is reportedly hunting her son after murdering her grandchild and her brother.
The targeted campaign against the family reportedly began when the group attempted to forcibly enlist her son, Chukwuma Collins Eze.
Following his refusal, the group branded him a police informant and declared him wanted within their network. In a sworn affidavit filed before an Enugu Magistrate Court, Regina detailed the horrific events that have since shattered her household.
According to the affidavit, the first major assault occurred in the early hours of January 3, 2023, at their residence on Amuri Road, Abakpa Nike.
The attack resulted in the death of her grandson, Eze Emmanuel Obika. While her son, Collins, narrowly escaped, he sustained deep injuries across his body. Although the matter was reported to the police and Collins was hospitalized, the threats did not cease.
While still on his sickbed, Collins allegedly received numerous death threats via telephone for involving law enforcement.
Regina revealed that as the threats intensified and the police were unable to apprehend the perpetrators, her son became helpless and eventually fled to an unknown location.
It was only in January 2025 that she learned a friend had assisted Collins and his family in fleeing Nigeria for their safety.
However, the group’s vengeance shifted to Regina. On August 1, 2025, members of the group reportedly invaded her home on Obiagu Road in Enugu, demanding she produce her son or forfeit her life. When she pleaded for mercy, the assailants beat her into unconsciousness, stabbing her in the left arm and striking her in the head with a club.
Regina’s brother, Mr. Eneh Godfrey, attempted to intervene to save her life, but he was stabbed multiple times and died from his injuries.
Regina was eventually rushed to the hospital by neighbors and regained consciousness several days later.
The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed receipt of the complaint. In a bulletin signed by CSP Tasie Vincent, the Command stated that the incident has been documented and a police extract has been issued to facilitate further investigation into the killings and the ongoing threats against the family.
