The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has denied reports suggesting he is lobbying to become the Director-General (DG) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike described the reports as false, stressing that he has not discussed the leadership or membership of the proposed campaign council with anyone.
The FCT Minister emphasized that his current focus remains on fulfilling his administrative duties in the nation’s capital and supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
He noted that while his commitment to Tinubu’s re-election remains firm, holding a formal position in the campaign council is unnecessary to contribute to the President’s victory.
Wike disclosed that he is currently taking a break outside Nigeria after over a month of overseeing infrastructure projects across the FCT including commissioning completed works, flagging off new ones, and inspecting ongoing developments scheduled for completion between December and January.
“I am outside Nigeria resting and relaxing after spending over 30 days commissioning projects, flagging off new ones, and inspecting ongoing ones, especially those scheduled for commissioning in December and January next year,” Wike said.
He added that upon his return, his primary objective would be to sustain the administration’s program delivery under the Renewed Hope Agenda and strengthen the President’s electoral standing in Rivers State and the FCT.
“When I return, our focus will be the continuous delivery of our mandate in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and to further enhance his electoral fortunes in Rivers State and the FCT,” he stated.
Despite his continued membership in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wike remains one of the prominent political figures actively backing President Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
