The Plateau State Government has debunked viral social media reports alleging that Senator Abdul’aziz Yari visited the state without paying a courtesy visit to the state governor, describing the claims as misleading and unfounded.
In a statement released in Jos by the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Executive Governor, Dr. Gyang Bere, the government clarified that the former Governor of Zamfara State and Director-General of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council was in the state capital on an entirely private condolence mission.
The primary purpose of his trip was to commiserate with prominent Islamic scholar Sheikh Yahaya Jingir over the recent passing of a key leader within his organisation.
Bere noted that contrary to online insinuations suggesting a breach of protocol or political friction, Senator Yari’s itinerary was undertaken with the complete awareness and backing of the state administration.
The Plateau State Government noted that it actively received the federal lawmaker upon arrival by deploying an official reception team and facilitating comprehensive transport and logistical support throughout his stay.
Addressing public reactions, the government urged citizens to dismiss rumours alleging any disrespect toward the office of the governor. The statement further reassured residents and political stakeholders that a comprehensive, formal engagement is being scheduled, during which the former governor will return to Plateau State to hold extensive consultations.
According to Bere, the upcoming official visit will accord full protocol, honour, and courtesy to the state’s traditional institutions, Christian and Muslim religious leaders, political actors and diverse opinion leaders, celebrating their continued contributions to peace, social stability, and national progress.
