Why my re-election bid was endorsed by APC Stakeholders — Salisu

Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, has attributed his endorsement ahead of the senatorial primary election to the confidence that party leaders and stakeholders have in his first-term performance at the National Assembly.

Salisu stated this while speaking to journalists at the ongoing primary election in Opeji ward, disclosing that the overwhelming support from delegates and party structures across the district was both humbling and historic.

According to him, various organs of the party, including leaders, councillors, ward chairmen, local government executives, and party stakeholders, had unanimously endorsed his bid for another term in office.

“Those who own the structure of the district have come out not once, not twice, but several times to endorse me. The latest endorsement came from party leaders and elders. Councillors, local government chairmen, executive council members, and party executives across Ogun State have all demonstrated their support,” he said.

The Senator noted that he did not take the endorsements for granted, stressing that the support reflected satisfaction with his representation and developmental initiatives over the last three years.

He described the development as significant, noting that it would mark the first time in the history of Ogun Central that a sitting senator secures the opportunity for a back-to-back election bid.

Salisu said his legislative focus had largely centered on education, youth empowerment, infrastructure, and digital technology development, which he described as critical sectors for the future.

“When the primary election is concluded, I will present my scorecard to the people. I will show what we have done in education, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and digital skills development,” he stated.

The lawmaker disclosed that more than 350 youths recently graduated from an Information Technology training program facilitated through his office, while over 2,000 youths across Ogun Central had benefited from employment and empowerment initiatives.

According to him, Nigeria’s future economic growth lies largely in technology and innovation, stressing the need to equip young people with relevant ICT skills to compete in the global digital economy.

“Technology is the future. Today, companies driven by digital innovation are valued higher than many traditional financial institutions. That is why I have focused on ICT and education, because they will remain relevant for generations,” he added.

Salisu further explained that his passion for education was shaped by his humble background, revealing that he attended public primary and secondary schools within his local community before proceeding to the University of Lagos.

“I am a product of a rural local government primary school and a community secondary school. From there, I proceeded to the University of Lagos through the grace of God. That is why I remain passionate about improving education and creating opportunities for young people,” he said.

The Senator also highlighted Nigeria’s growing influence in Africa’s fintech sector, noting that many of the continent’s leading technology companies are Nigerian-owned.

He added that his role as Chairman of ICT Committees across West African parliaments had further strengthened his conviction that digital skills and innovation remain key drivers of economic development and youth empowerment.

Salisu also commended Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for what he described as impactful governance and leadership within the state and the ruling party.

“This endorsement is not just about me as an individual; it is also a reflection of the good work Governor Dapo Abiodun has done in Ogun State. I am proud to have served as part of his team,” he stated.

The Senator equally appreciated former Ogun State Governor, Olusegun Osoba, for his continued guidance and leadership within the party.

He further thanked members of his ward, Opeji Ward, for their unwavering support, describing their loyalty as invaluable to his political journey.
