The principal suspect in the brutal murder of veteran broadcaster Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, has confessed to orchestrating the attack.
The suspect claimed the crime was motivated by grievances over his treatment while working for the deceased.
Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, a 22-year-old former security guard employed by Madam Oyesiku, reportedly told investigators that he recruited two accomplices to carry out the attack to teach her a lesson over what he described as poor remuneration during his employment.
The Commissioner of Police for the Ogun State Police Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, disclosed this on Thursday during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
According to the commissioner, the two other suspects arrested in connection with the crime are Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36.
All three suspects are currently in police custody.
CP Ojajuni explained that the incident was reported on June 21, 2026, when officers at the Owode-Egba Police Station received information about suspicious circumstances at Madam Oyesiku’s residence.
Upon arrival, detectives discovered the lifeless body of security guard Pelumi Adetayo in the security post.
Madam Oyesiku was found dead in a pool of blood inside her living room. Investigators also observed that her Lexus RX 330 SUV was missing, raising immediate suspicions of robbery and murder.
The Command launched an intensive investigation involving intelligence gathering and technical tracking.
“Within 24 hours, operatives traced and recovered the stolen vehicle at Onikolobo, Ogun State. Although the suspects had removed the ignition key and detached the number plates, detectives found the registration plate hidden beneath a seat, which enabled them to confirm ownership of the vehicle,” the Commissioner said.
A significant breakthrough came from a handwritten note recovered at the crime scene. The note was subjected to forensic analysis, generating crucial leads that helped investigators track down the suspects. Philip was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he had been working as a laborer. Subsequent operations led to the arrest of the two other suspects.
During interrogation, Philip allegedly confessed to planning and participating in the murders, admitting he recruited the other suspects because he harbored resentment toward Madam Oyesiku.
Investigators revealed that the suspects carried out the attack on June 20. They reportedly overpowered Pelumi Adetayo and used him to gain access to the residence before attacking Madam Oyesiku. Police alleged that Adetayo was later killed by the assailants before they fled in the victim’s vehicle.
Further searches linked to the suspects led to the recovery of several exhibits, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a wooden plank, and a black pen.
While confirming that the suspects had made useful statements, CP Ojajuni emphasized that they remain innocent until proven guilty and are entitled to due process under the law.
He added that investigations are ongoing to strengthen the case for a successful prosecution.
