In moments of crisis, lifesaving care often depends on how quickly help reaches those in need, a reality now playing out in Maiduguri following a recent incident that left many requiring urgent medical attention.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has stepped in to support response efforts, working closely with the Borno State Government, partners and donors to strengthen healthcare delivery and protect affected communities.
In an update shared on its official X account, WHO confirmed the deployment of essential emergency supplies to bolster ongoing medical response.
The supplies include four trauma kits, medicines, intravenous (IV) fluids and antibiotics aimed at stabilising injured patients.
According to the organisation, the resources are currently supporting treatment efforts at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), where about 120 patients have already received care. The intervention is helping to improve survival outcomes and ensure more families remain together during the crisis.
Beyond immediate medical support, response teams are also working to strengthen referral pathways and accelerate treatment for patients with critical injuries.
WHO reaffirmed its solidarity with the people of Maiduguri and frontline health workers, who continue to operate under challenging conditions to save lives.
