The newly inaugurated Chairman of the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC), Mr. Joseph Tegbe, has declared that the success of Nigeria’s tax reforms hinges on rebuilding the trust of the citizenry.
Tegbe made this known following his inauguration by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, on Saturday.
The committee was constituted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to spearhead the nation’s tax reform agenda.
Setting the tone for his tenure, Tegbe in apost made on Facebook emphasized that tax administration must be human-centric.
He argued that for the system to thrive, citizens must see transparency and believe that public revenues are being used for the common good.
”A tax system thrives only when citizens believe in it; when they see transparency, feel fairness, and trust that government will deploy public revenues responsibly,” Tegbe said.
He outlined the committee’s immediate priorities, which include simplifying compliance processes, reducing friction for businesses, and broadening the tax base to ensure economic stability.
Tegbe, however, noted that the task of nation-building is not for the committee alone but a “shared endeavour of citizens.”
He promised to lead with openness, accountability, and sustained engagement with all stakeholders, including industry players and civil society.
”Nigeria’s future is bright, and with shared responsibility and collective resolve, we will get there together,” he concluded.
