Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has urged his loyalists and political stakeholders to be grateful to God and Oyo state citizens for the opportunity to serve.
Speaking on Friday evening during a strategic meeting with political associates, Makinde said, It has been a tough period for us, politically. When the Speaker, Rt Hon Adebo Ogundoyin, was talking, he said that I am the best governor, but I will say no. It is the team. For me, there must not be any division, so that Oyo State people can reap further the benefits of this team. Only one person can occupy a position at any one time. Apart from the positions at the local government levels, the elective positions for the 2027 general elections are 51. That means 51 people out of a population of about 10 million.”
“So, no matter how we look at it, we must be thankful to God, and we must be grateful to the people of Oyo State for giving us the opportunity to serve them.”
“So, I just want to appeal that this team must be together, and it must continue the good work we have started for the benefit of the people of Oyo State.“
He further urged stakeholders to maintain a unified front to ensure the state’s continued development beyond 2027.
The Governor emphasized that the successes recorded by his administration since 2019 are the result of collective effort rather than individual merit.
He urged party leaders, aspirants, and candidates for the 2027 elections to prioritize the team’s cohesion over personal ambitions.
He remarked that while his original ambition was to serve in the Senate, he became Governor through divine will, underscoring the importance of being one’s brother’s keeper rather than allowing competition to derail the government’s progress.
The Governor highlighted that the people of Oyo State are primarily interested in the continuity of his administration’s policies.
He warned that as the 2027 elections approach, there will be an increase in misinformation designed to create internal friction. He urged his supporters to resolve grievances internally and remain focused on service.
Attendees at the meeting included Deputy Governor Barr. Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, Speaker of the House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, and various commissioners including Prof. Daud Kehinde Shagodoyin, Hon. Ademola Ojo, and Hon. Williams Akin-Funmilayo.
Other key figures present were Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, Hon. Saheed Akinade-Fijabi, and ALGON Chairman Hon. Sikiru Sanda.
