The Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women and young adults through strategic programmes focused on skills acquisition, entrepreneurship development, financial inclusion, and advocacy.
The commitment was reiterated during the 4th graduation ceremony of Terra Academy for the Arts (TAFTA), where over 60,000 creatives were celebrated for completing intensive training in various disciplines including acting, filmmaking, scriptwriting, and stage production.
The event brought together industry leaders, stakeholders, partners, and families to honour the achievements of the graduating participants.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. (Mrs.) Bolaji Cecilia Dada, commended TAFTA for its contributions to youth empowerment and job creation within the creative industry noting that investment in the arts remains a sustainable pathway for economic growth and social development, adding that the Ministry will continue to support initiatives that equip women and young people with practical skills for self-reliance and meaningful participation in the economy.
She urged the graduates to remain resilient and innovative in their respective careers.
“Be bold enough to create differently, resilient enough to rise after setbacks, and courageous enough to lead. Remember, success is not defined only by fame, but by the impact you make,” she said.
Earlier in her remarks, the Founder of TAFTA, Chief (Mrs.) Bolanle Austen-Peters, appreciated the presence and support of the Commissioner, urging the graduates to take full advantage of opportunities within the creative economy and encouraging them to remain confident in their abilities despite challenges, noting that consistency and self-belief remain key to long-term success.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to expanding access to quality creative education and strengthening partnerships aimed at further developing Lagos State’s creative economy and empowering vulnerable groups.
