The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Mrs. Rianat Onigbanjo, has been inducted as a Mayor by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), with a commitment to support road safety and traffic management initiatives across the state.
The induction ceremony, held in Lagos, featured the presentation of an operational manual containing key contact details of zonal heads and official communication lines for reporting traffic-related issues.
Speaking during the event, the Comptroller of LASTMA, Awoyemi J.A., who led the delegation, provided an overview of the agency’s structure, highlighting the various ranks and responsibilities within the authority. He also explained the use of the communication channels outlined in the manual, noting that they are designed to strengthen public participation in traffic management and enhance road safety awareness.
In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Onigbanjo who was also formally decorated as a LASTMA Mayor expressed appreciation for the recognition, describing it as both an honour and a call to greater responsibility in contributing to safer and more organised roads in Lagos State.
She commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his continued commitment to improving transportation infrastructure in the state, as well as the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, for driving reforms in the sector. She also acknowledged the contributions of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa, and the General Manager of LASTMA, Bakare Oki, alongside the agency’s workforce for the initiative.
Mrs. Onigbanjo reaffirmed her commitment to promoting road safety, discipline, and responsible road use, pledging to support policies and programmes aimed at improving traffic flow and ensuring a more efficient transportation system across Lagos State.
The LASTMA Mayor initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to foster collaboration between public officials and traffic management authorities in addressing the challenges of urban mobility.
