UNN imposes ban on late-night social events

16 Sept 2025

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has prohibited all social events on campus from taking place after 6:00 p.m.

This immediate ban follows the fatal stabbing of a businessman, Mr. Chiebonam Nweze, during a bonfire event on September 12.

The event, organized by the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies, was allegedly hijacked by “miscreants from a neighboring community,” according to a statement from UNN’s Acting Public Relations Officer, Mr. Inya Egwu.

“All such activities must be held strictly during the daytime and under the supervision of the University Security Unit,” the statement declared.

The University further reassured students and staff of its commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment and promised to implement all necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
