The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos branch, has threatened to resume its suspended strike on November 21, 2025, if the Federal Government fails to meet its outstanding demands, including payment of withheld salaries and implementation of the renegotiated 2009 agreement.
ASUU expressed disappointment that the suspension of its two week warning strike in October had not produced any tangible results, accusing the government of paying lip service to its promises.
The warning came in a statement on Wednesday signed by the UNIJOS branch chairman, Prof. Jurbe Molwus, who lamented that lecturers were yet to receive their 3.5 months’ withheld salaries, 25/35 per cent wage award arrears, promotion arrears, and other outstanding entitlements.
“All we get are press releases from the Minister of Education. What we need are credit alerts, not media statements,” Molwus said.
He faulted the government’s claims that ₦50 billion had been released for university revitalisation and ₦2.3 billion to clear salary arrears, saying no funds had reached the universities.
Molwus urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritise the education sector and ensure all pending issues between the government and university unions are resolved.
He appealed to students, parents, and stakeholders to prevail on the Federal Government to act swiftly, warning that ASUU should not be blamed if the union resumes its strike after the deadline.
“The strike was only suspended as a mark of goodwill. We expect the government to reciprocate by addressing our demands without further delay,” he said.
ASUU’s National Executive Council is scheduled to meet November 8–9, 2025, to review the situation and decide on its next line of action.
