Tyson Fury announces unconventional training plan for April comeback fight

27 Feb 2026

Former two-time heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury has stunned the boxing world by announcing he will conduct his entire training camp without a professional trainer for his upcoming fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11.

Speaking on the 5 Live Boxing podcast, Fury declared he has no need for a traditional support team, including nutritionists or mind coaches, asserting that his only requirements are basic corner assistance for hydration and medical needs.

This comeback, scheduled for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, marks Fury’s return to the ring following his retirement announcement after back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024.

Despite his 16-month hiatus, Fury maintains a high level of confidence, claiming he remains the “X Factor” of the heavyweight division.
His opponent, the unbeaten Russian knockout artist Makhmudov, will provide a significant test in an event that also marks Netflix’s debut into live boxing broadcasts in the United Kingdom.

The card is further bolstered by the addition of Conor Benn, who is set to make his debut for Zuffa Boxing against Regis Prograis.

In recent media appearances, Fury has continued to contest the results of his previous encounters with Usyk, claiming he won both fights clearly despite the official split and unanimous decision losses.

While Fury focuses on his April return, his long-discussed mega-fight with Anthony Joshua appears to have stalled once again. Promoters indicated that while negotiations for a potential late summer 2026 clash had been moving in the right direction, Joshua’s return to the ring is now expected no earlier than July following his recovery from a recent car accident.
