Two defendants, Kingsley Adieme and Rachel Onyekachi, have been arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Bolade, Oshodi, Lagos, for indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

The defendants were brought before the court on charges bordering on environmental nuisance and improper waste disposal, an offence that contravenes existing sanitation laws in the state.

During proceedings, both Adieme and Onyekachi pleaded guilty to the charges levelled against them.

Following their guilty plea, the presiding magistrate convicted the defendants and sentenced them to three months imprisonment each, without an option of fine.

The court held that indiscriminate dumping of refuse poses serious environmental and public health risks, stressing the need for strict enforcement of sanitation laws to maintain cleanliness and order in the state.

Authorities have continued to warn residents against improper waste disposal, urging adherence to approved waste management practices to avoid prosecution.
