The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the brutal killing of a 16-year-old boy, Wahab Lawal, whose mutilated body was discovered days after he was declared missing.
According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, Wahab had been living with his grandmother when he was reported missing by his father, Mr. Olumide Lawal. His decomposing body was later found on July 23 along the Old Express Road in the Igbile-Ijebu area of the state.
Disturbingly, a preliminary examination of the corpse revealed that the boy’s head, wrists, heart, and genitals had been severed, suggesting a ritualistic motive behind the killing.
Following credible intelligence, officers from the Omu-Ijebu Division apprehended two suspects. One of them reportedly made a confessional statement, which was captured on video.
Due to the state of the remains, Wahab was buried in accordance with Islamic rites. Odutola confirmed that the case file and relevant exhibits had been forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, for further investigation.
Efforts are underway to track down other fleeing accomplices, while the police have assured the public of their commitment to ensuring justice is served. The command also called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
