A road accident has claimed the life of a 21-year-old student from the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) and destroyed his family residence in Aramoko-Ekiti, leaving his relatives devastated and homeless.

The victim, Promise Farotimi, a 300-level undergraduate, died on March 26 after a heavy-duty truck lost control and rammed into the family house while he was sleeping.

According to the bereaved father, Mr. Rufus Farotimi, the truck crashed into the residence with such force that it collapsed part of the building, crushing his son in the process.

The young student died in the wreckage, abruptly ending a life described by family members as promising and full of potential.

Speaking amid deep grief, Mr. Farotimi described the incident as a double tragedy, the painful loss of his son and the complete destruction of their home.

He lamented that the accident wiped out the family’s life savings and possessions, leaving them displaced and struggling to cope.

Reports indicate that the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the crash. However, the driver’s assistant was apprehended, and documents recovered from the vehicle reportedly identified the driver as Shuaibu Yusuf.

Mr. Farotimi has since appealed to law enforcement authorities to intensify efforts to locate and arrest the fleeing driver, insisting that those responsible must face justice.

He also called on the company linked to the truck to take responsibility, stressing that the grieving family should not be left to bear the burden of the loss alone.

The incident has sparked outrage among residents of Aramoko-Ekiti, with many neighbors attributing the accident to reckless driving and the poor state of the local roads.

They urged relevant authorities to urgently address road safety concerns to prevent similar tragedies.

Meanwhile, the police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, assuring the public that every effort is being made to unravel the circumstances surrounding the crash and ensure accountability.
