Troops rescue wife of ex-defence spokesman from bandits ‎

‎The Nigerian military has rescued Mrs. Amina Abubakar, wife of the late former Director of Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar, from bandits following a coordinated search and rescue operation in Katsina State.

‎According to a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the rescue was carried out by troops of the Nigerian Army with support from the Nigerian Air Force under Operation FASAN YAMMA.

‎Mrs. Abubakar was abducted alongside her husband by bandits a few weeks ago after which her recovery followed intensified offensive operations and sustained pressure mounted on criminal elements operating within the region.

‎The statement disclosed that troops made contact with the bandits at Tunga Village during the operation, leading to the successful rescue of Mrs. Abubakar.

‎However, in the course of the encounter, the bandits reportedly shot her before abandoning her and fleeing due to the overwhelming pressure from advancing troops.

‎She was immediately evacuated to a military hospital, where she is currently receiving medical attention and responding positively to treatment.

‎The Armed Forces of Nigeria assured the public of its commitment to ensuring Mrs. Abubakar’s full recovery while providing necessary support to her family during the difficult period.

‎The military also reiterated its resolve to track down and neutralise those responsible for the abduction.

‎Major General Uba stated that troops would sustain ongoing operations aimed at flushing out terrorists and bandits from affected communities, not only in Katsina State but across the country reaffirming the commitment of the Armed Forces to restoring peace and security nationwide.
