Troops of Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North West, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have dismantled an illegal arms manufacturing syndicate in Kebbi State, recovering five locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and arresting two suspected arms manufacturers.
The operation, carried out on Wednesday, followed credible intelligence on the activities of a criminal network allegedly involved in the production and supply of locally made firearms to terrorist groups operating within the state.
According to military authorities, the troops launched a carefully coordinated raid on a secluded compound allegedly used by the suspects as a covert weapons production site, deliberately concealed to avoid security detection.
A thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of five locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, while two suspects believed to be key figures in the illegal arms supply chain were apprehended during the operation.
The military said the raid was executed in collaboration with other security agencies, describing the success as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist logistics and weaken criminal networks across the North-West.
The development marks another significant milestone in the sustained offensive of Operation FANSAN YAMMA against the proliferation of illicit arms, which security agencies say continues to fuel banditry, terrorism, and violent attacks in the region.
The arrested suspects are currently in military custody and undergoing preliminary interrogation.
