Transcorp Power Plc has appointed Mrs. Maryam Bala Shehu as an Independent Non-Executive Director on its Board of Directors.
The company noted that the appointment is however subject to statutory approval from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
Mrs. Shehu arrives at the power generation major with more than three decades of experience spanning energy commercial operations, oil and gas commercialisation, complex commercial negotiations, project finance, ESG frameworks, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR).
A substantial portion of her corporate career was spent at TotalEnergies in Nigeria, where she worked for over 11 years in several senior and executive capacities. Between 2014 and 2020, Shehu served as Deputy General Manager and Lead Negotiator for Gas Commercial, spearheading critical commercial agreements across the domestic market and export channels. Her portfolio included negotiations for Nigeria’s Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) expansion programmes specifically covering later NLNG trains as well as managing high-level interface with industry regulators, state institutions, joint venture partners, and commercial off-takers. During this tenure, between 2018 and 2020, she also chaired the Gas Subcommittee of the Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS).
Shehu subsequently served as General Manager for Deepwater Assets Administration at TotalEnergies from September 2020 to April 2022, exercising executive oversight across key operational support functions including security, logistics, safety, facilities engineering, and stakeholder engagement. Earlier in her career at the multinational, she operated as Gas Finance Manager, acting as the lead representative on Finance Advisory Committees for major gas projects and aligning complex balance-sheet decisions with operational execution. Since January 2022, she has functioned as an Energy Business Consultant and ADR Expert at Bamusky Global Consult Ltd, advising energy clients on mediation, arbitration, gas monetization, and ESG design.
Academically and professionally, Shehu holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Ahmadu Bello University, an MBA from Lagos Business School (Pan-Atlantic University), and completed postgraduate studies in the Mechanics of Renewable Energy at Middlesex University. She has also undertaken executive education programmes at Stanford University Graduate School of Business and the University of Navarra. A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA), she holds multiple prestigious credentials including Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (FICMC), Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management (FNIM), and Member of the Chartered Institute of Directors (MCIOD).
