Power supply to parts of Kaduna South has been disrupted following the collapse of a transmission tower in Rigasa community.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed that Tower No. 7, located along the Kaduna Town Line I and II, gave way after a severe downpour and windstorm hit the area.
During inspection, TCN engineers discovered evidence of vandalism, with some tower members carted away, making the structure vulnerable to collapse.
The incident affected several Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) load centers serving parts of Kaduna South. To reduce the impact, TCN advised KAEDCO to link its 33kV Mogadishu feeder with the 33kV Abakwa feeder, enabling electricity supply to continue in Mogadishu and its environs.
Meanwhile, areas such as Kinkinau, Yan Tukwane, Kabala West, Unguwan Muazu, and Kaduna North remain unaffected and continue to enjoy regular electricity supply.
TCN engineers are already on-site dismantling the collapsed structure to pave the way for the erection of a replacement tower. The company assured residents that efforts are being made to minimize the duration of the outage.
“We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our valued customers in Southern Kaduna and sincerely appreciate their patience as we work round the clock to restore supply,” said Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs.
